The GED (General Education Development) exam

The GED (General Education Development) exam determines if your skills match those of a standard high school graduate. Skills are assessed in:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Reading
  • Social Studies
  • Science

Who should take the GED exam?

You should take the GED exam if you are over 18 years old and need a high school diploma. If you pass all five subtests, you receive a State of Florida High School Diploma from the Florida State Department of Education.

What is the exam content?

The GED exam is made of five subtests.

  • Four subtests are multiple choice.
  • One subtest is part essay test and part multiple choice.

What requirements do I have to meet before I can take the GED exam?

To take the GED exam, you must:

  • Be 18 years old
  • Present a valid Driver`s license or State of Florida ID card
  • Pay the fees

What do I do if I need to take the GED exam?

You can register for the GED exam by attending one of the GED orientation and registration sessions. The sessions require about two hours for registration and you must bring  both a valid Florida ID/Driver`s License and a valid social security card.
