Computerized Placement Test (CPT)
Preparing for the CPT is important. A first time test-taker should study a minimum of two hours to assure the test results will accurately place you in English, reading and mathematics courses.
Steps for the CPT Test
- Begin studying - The CPT test is a computerized test, so it is vital that you practice taking the test. SCC has created an online practice area that you can use to access your abilities and improve your CPT test-taking skills.
Click here to visit the SCC CPT practice area.
- Schedule the test - CPT refresh testing is available on a walk-in basis between the hours of 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday at the Sanford/Lake Mary and Oviedo Campuses.
- Pay for the test - The payment process begins at the Assessment and Testing Center. For first time in college (FTIC) students, there is no separate fee for the CPT. Non-SCC students, who are not applying for SCC admission, should contact the Assessment/Testing Center about their $25 CPT testing fee. Payment must be made before testing can occur.
- Take the test!
- Final steps - Complete the online student orientation and schedule an appointment with the Counseling and Educational Planning Office (CEPD) for results, interpretation and course placement. If you have already completed orientation, you may go directly for advisement.
