The ACT (American College Testing) Exam

The ACT (American College Testing) exam assesses your skills in:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Reading
  • Science Reasoning

At SCC, the ACT is a placement exam. If you do not do well on a part of the ACT test, it does not mean you can't enter the program. It tells SCC what your strengths and weaknesses are so we can help you complete your program.

Who should take the ACT exam?

Florida requires students to take admissions or placement tests before entering a program. The test you take depends on the program you want to enter. You should take the ACT test if you:

  • Are entering a college credit program (working toward an A.A. or A.S. degree)
  • Have not taken the SAT or CPT
  • Have SAT or CPT scores more than two years old

The ACT exam meets the State's requirement for students entering a college-credit program.

I've already taken the ACT test. How do I get my scores to SCC?

You are responsible for making sure SCC has your ACT records.

  • Contact the facility at which you took the test(s). They may be able to help you.
  • Speak with the Admissions department. They may be able to tell you who to contact to get your ACT records.
  • Contact ACT at ACT.org or call 1-319-337-1313.

What should I do if I haven't taken the ACT?

SCC is a national ACT test center and provides ACT testing four times a year. You can take the exam at the Assessment and Testing Center; however, you must register for the ACT by completing an ACT registration packet available in the SCC Assessment and Testing Center or at any high school guidance department.
