Welcome to Tech PrepWelcome to the Seminole Community College Tech Prep web page! This Web page includes basic information about Tech Prep but also includes a link on each program area to Seminole Community College Career Program Web pages that will assist students in making career decisions. If you are not familiar with Tech Prep, we hope you will take a good look at this web page especially with the current technological advances and those expected in the millennium. Tech Prep links directly to the Florida Gold Seal Scholarship which pays 75% of tuition at Florida colleges and technical centers. Tech Prep, which is short for Technical Preparation, is a nation-wide program that allows high school students to receive college credit while in 9th - 12th grade. Did you know? A basic premise of Tech Prep is that students will continue their education in technical training after high school. National statistics reveal that only 50% of students after high school go directly into a four-year university. Of those students that pursue a four-year degree, only 15% will receive a four-year degree within six years. Twenty percent of these students will receive a four-year degree in a lifetime. In Seminole County, 59% of the 1996-97 graduates (this only includes students that stayed in Florida or in the military and Seminole was the second highest county in the state) continued their education after high school. The Seminole County Public Schools Senior Exit Survey revealed that over 83% of seniors stated they would be to attending a two or four-year college. In Seminole County, Tech Prep is a joint effort between Seminole Community College and the Seminole County School-to-Work initiative. But, this cooperative effort would not exist without the vision and staff of the Applied Technology Office at Seminole County Public Schools. If the Tech Prep Office can assist in answering your questions, please do not hesitate to contact us through e-mail at hunterc@scc-fl.edu or by phone at 407.708.2427. We wish you every success in your career decisions and future endeavors! |
