Program Overview

Respiratory Therapy pictureThe Respiratory Care Program at SCC leads to a two-year Associate in Science degree. The curriculum progresses from basic sciences and fundamental courses to advanced courses in critical care medicine and pediatrics. Clinical experiences are gained through area hospitals, extended-care facilities and home care. Graduates will be prepared to become Registered Respiratory Therapists and to receive licensure by the State of Florida. The Respiratory Care Program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) in conjunction with the Central Association of Advisors for the Health Professions of the American Medical Association.

Respiratory care is a limited-access program at SCC. Students meeting the admission requirements are admitted each fall semester.

A special transition track exists for Certified Respiratory Therapists returning to complete their A.S. degree. This unique track awards CRTs with up to 33 credits for previous respiratory coursework. Students applying for this program must have earned their CRT certificate within last five years at the time of application.

The estimated cost to complete this two-year A.S. degree program is $5,700*. This covers expenses for books, courses, labs and uniforms.
