Frequently Asked Questions Admission Questions What are the application acceptance dates for the nursing programs? Review the current application submission dates.
I have taken some/all of my prerequisites at another institution. Can I apply to SCC's Nursing Programs? Yes, but you must follow the admission procedures. All outside transcripts must be evaluated by SCC Records prior to applying to any SCC Nursing Program.
I have a bachelor's degree or higher. Do I still have to take the prerequisite courses? All students applying to the SCC Nursing Programs must complete all of the admission criteria. Review the admission procedures for more details.
I submitted my transcripts and waited 6-8 weeks for the evaluation, but I do not see any courses. Make sure your program plan is correct. If it is incorrect, go to the Admissions or Advising Office for the Change of Program Plan Form. Also, contact the Records Office to verify it has received your transcripts. Program Schedules What are the hours of the Generic RN Day Program? Student schedules will vary each term. Lectures and labs will be held throughout the week from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Days on which students have clinicals can start as early as 7 a.m. and are from eight to 10 hours long. There is a possibility of a weekend clinical. Students will be scheduled for lectures, labs and clinical from three to six days a week.
What are the hours of the Generic RN Evening/Weekend Program? Student schedules will vary each term. Lectures and labs will typically be held throughout the week from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; however, lectures and labs can start as early as 3 p.m. Clinicals are typically held on Saturdays and/or Sundays; start as early as 7 a.m.; and run from eight to 10 hours long. There is the possibility of having weekday clinicals, which would start in the early afternoon, and there are some mandatory day activities students must attend, such as hospital orientations, Board of Nursing meetings, etc. Students will be scheduled for lectures, labs and clinicals from three to six days a week.
What is the schedule for the RN Career Transition Program? All lecture content is delivered in an online format. Students must come to Campus for testing and lab activities. Clinicals are conducted at Central Florida area hospitals. Students will have clinical hours from one to two days a week and must attend Campus activities from two to four days per month.
What are the hours of the Practical Nursing (PN) Program? Student schedules will vary each term. Lectures and labs will be held throughout the week from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Days on which students have clinicals can start as early as 6:30 a.m. and are from eight to 10 hours long. There is a possibility of a weekend clinical. Students will be scheduled for lectures, labs and clinical from three to six days a week.
What are the hours of the Nursing Assistant Program? Day classes are held from three to four days a week, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for eight weeks. Evening classes are held two days a week for 16 weeks from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
What is the tuition cost for the nursing programs? The Nursing Programs follow the same tuition cost schedule as the College. Additional costs include lab fees, uniforms, books, supplies, background checks, health assessments, as well as graduation and licensing fees. These fees vary for each program. Review your specific information packet for details. Nurse Entrance Test Where do I take the Nurse Entrance Test (NET)? Students can take the NET at the Testing & Assessment Office on the Sanford-Lake Mary or Altamonte Springs Campuses only.
My NET scores are low. What can I do? You should remediate at the STAR Lab, on either the Altamonte Springs or Sanford/Lake Mary Campus, and then retake the NET. You can take the NET up to three times a year, but you must wait one month between each retake.
Is there a fee for the NET? Yes, there is a fee. The fee is $35 for SCC students who have taken courses and $45 for non-SCC students.
I took the NET at another school. Can I use those scores? The SCC Nursing Program currently accepts NET scores from other institutions. This policy may change in the future.
Do NET scores expire? At this time, NET scores do not expire for SCC’s Nursing Programs.
I have a bachelor's (or master's) degree. Do I have to take the NET? All students applying to the SCC Nursing Programs must take and pass the NET. Minimum scores can be found in your program’s specific information packet.
