Cisco FAQ'sThere are three categories of questions frequently asked by potential networking and Cisco students: general questions, CCNA questions, and CCNP questions. General Questions What Cisco certifications are available?Seminole Community College offers two certifications:
How much do the courses cost?Pricing is based per credit hour. A lab fee is also charged per course. This information can be obtained from the Registrar's office or in the college catalog. When are the courses offered?SCC offers day, evening, weekend, and online classes for many networking courses. How long does it take to complete the program?The length of time to complete a certification program is two to four semesters. The A.S. degree usually takes a full time student five semesters. Some companies claim they provide Cisco-accredited training that lasts a fraction of this program's time. How can the Networking Academy program compete with that?SCC's Cisco Networking Academy is designed to meet the needs of a full-time student or business professional. Our courses are less expensive and provide hands-on, practical training. How much demand is there in the job market?The demand for these skills and the certifications is currently very high. What resources are available for job placement once I've earned a certification or degree?SCC Career Development Center can help you with your job search. CCNA Specific QuestionsHow many courses are in the CCNA program?There are four courses to prepare you to take the CCNA exam. These courses are also part of a two-year A.S. Degree in Computer Engineering Technology. Can I take all 4 courses at the same time?No. Courses must be taken sequentially starting with CET 1600C Cisco Networking Fundamentals. There are no prerequisites for this first course. The four CCNA courses must be taken in this order:
Do I receive a certification after completing the course?No. Certifications are received after you pass the Certification exam, which is offered at SCC's Professional Testing and Certification Center. The courses listed above are designed to help student pass the exam. I have networking experience or I am an MCSE or CNE. Do I have to take the intro course (CET 1600C)?Only people with a background in networking and a firm grasp of the OSI model, TCP/IP basics and subnetting should attempt Credit by Exam. What is the average starting salary for a CCNA technician?Graduates are ready to begin work in the IT field and can earn between $35,000 and $42,000 annually. CCNP Specific QuestionsWhat is the CCNP?The CCNP (Cisco Certified Networking Professional) certificate program is a follow-on program to the CCNA certification. Generally, CCNP programs provide a more advanced curriculum covering additional topics such as security, dial access, ATM, and network management. I am CCNA certified and I work in the field of networking. Is this enough to be allowed to start with the CCNP classes?Yes. However, you will still need to go through the admission process.
