    Medical Assisting Application Procedures

    To apply to the Medical Assisting program:

    • All students entering a healthcare program with a clinical component will be required to complete a criminal background check. Students must be free of offenses which could potentially disqualify them from working in a healthcare environment (Florida Statute 400.211). Admission into clinicals is at the discretion of the clinical agencies.
    • You must be at least 17 years old to apply to the program.
    • Medical AssistantsComplete the SCC Application. You must be accepted to SCC before you can be accepted to the program. (For more information on SCC application procedures, visit our Admissions office).
    • Take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education - Form D) exam at SCC's Assessment and Testing Center. You must take the exam before you can be admitted to the program. (The SCC Assessment and Testing Center is located in the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus Student Services Building A. You can contact the Center by calling 407.708.2020).

    To be eligible for the program, you must earn the following scores on the TABE:

    • Reading: 10.0
    • Language: 10.0
    • Math: 10.0

    Note: Students may be admitted with TABE scores of 8.0 or above, but will be required to remediate at the CORE lab and achieve scores of 10.0 or higher at a contracted deadline.

    Complete the following required documentation:

    • A copy of your TABE scores
    • Official transcripts of your high school diploma or GED certificate
    • Official transcripts from all colleges you have attended
    • Proof of CPR certification. This must be maintained prior to and for the duration of the program.

    Submit the required documentation to your advisor in the Counseling and Educational Planning Department (Office:407.708.2337).

    How do I get additional information?

    It is recommended that students visit a counselor or academic advisor for guidance in course selection, sequencing and scheduling. Financial assistance and scholarship opportunities are available. All services are free and available on all three SCC locations. The SCC College Catalog can be obtained in the Admissions Office or viewed using the SCC online catalog.
