Fast Facts for Faculty
- The libraries of the Oviedo and Sanford/Lake Mary campuses contain
more than 100,000 items. College couriers send and receive materials
from all campuses every business day.
- Faculty are encouraged to assist us in our efforts to build and
maintain a quality collection, and to meet students' needs. Please let
us know what resources should be available for your students to meet
the goals of your courses. Your librarian liaison will help you
determine what sources are currently available, and order those that
are needed, one term in advance.
- Research instruction sessions presented by librarians will acquaint
students with specific library resources best suited for your course
objectives. Our students are usually not prepared to use an academic
library when they begin college. Good research habits develop faster
when students have a formal introduction to relevant resources. If you
require students to conduct research, please schedule a research
instruction session in the Library.
- Library orientation sessions are available to introduce students to
the facility and merely describe services. There is little, if any,
interaction with library resources.
- Instruction and Orientation sessions need to be scheduled well in
advance. Please call the reference desk at ext. 2305 (or 407.708.2035)
for instructions at Sanford/lake Mary. Please call ext. 5062 (
or 407- 971-5062) to schedule sessions at the Oviedo campus.
- The Library provides "24/7" access to subscription databases to
professional and peer-reviewed journals, and research study guides
with direct subject access to the library catalog, and carefully
evaluated Internet sites. These resources are available anywhere you
have access to the Internet. All you need is the barcode number from
the front of your SCC Library card, and your PIN (last four digits
of your Social Security number)!
- The Library at Sanford/Lake Mary has the widest operating
schedule of any campus agency. We are open 74.25 hours, seven days a
week during the Fall and Spring terms. In addition to our 24-computer
library research area, we host a 55-seat Open Computer Lab managed by
the CTS department. More than 250 people may be seated throughout the
facility, including our study rooms and carrels.
- Instructional support is also available through:
- Circulation Services (reserve materials and traditional circulation services)
- Distance Learning (helping you build online courses and assist your students)
- Media Production Services (creating and converting resources the most current technologies and formats)
- Technical Services (acquisition and cataloging library resources)
- Questions? Problems? Please contact Patricia DeSalvo, Dean,
Division of Learning Resources (L-111, ext. 2136, desalvop@scc-fl.edu).
