    Using PsycFIRST in FirstSearch (OCLC), To Find References On Your Topic
    Database Description: PsycFIRST is a subset product of PsycINFO, an American Psychological Association database, providing abstracts from the current & preceding 3 years of journal articles, chapters, books, dissertations & reports on psychology & related fields.

    Entering FirstSearch (OCLC)

    1. On the Research Quick Start page, at “Locate Periodical Articles in Online Databases,” locate & click LINCCWeb Online Databases.
    2. At Borrower ID, type the Borrower ID number located on your SCC Library ID card.
    3. At PIN, type your Personal Identification Number. Your default PIN is the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.
    4. Click the “Log on” button.
    5. At the Alphabetical Database List, locate and click PsycFIRST (OCLC).
    6. Click the “Connect to Database” button. Note: This opens another browser window.

    Using PsycFIRST

    1. At "Search for," type your subject. Leave "Keyword" selected.
    2. At "Limit to: Language Phrase," click on the drop-list and select "English."
    3. At "Limit to: Document Type, " click on the drop-list and select "Peer Reviewed Article."
    4. Click "Search"
    5. On the "List of Records" screen, click on any article title (The blue underlined statement) to get the
           "Detailed Record" screen.

    B. Locate Full Text not linked from PsyFIRST

    1. Psychology journals in Databases: table details which indexed journals contains full-text
    2. Psychology journals in Databases: Academic Search Premier Full-Text, Peer Reviewed Psychology & Psychiatry Titles
    3. Psychology journals in Databases: Omnifile full-text peer reviewed psychology journals
    4. Psychology journals owned by SCC Psychology - Periodicals
    5. Psychology journals owned by UCF Psychology- Periodicals
    6.  Psychology journals owned by UCF Psychology, Applied- Periodicals  
    7. Do an ILL request for material not owned by SCC LRC.
    8. Copy the article at a library that owns it.
       

    E-mail or Print

    You can print or e-mail an article by clicking the e-mail icon or the print icon instructions.
     

    PsycINFO Thesaurus available within PsycFIRST, in FirstSearch (OCLC)
    Click the Subjects  icon to browse the list of subject headings. This feature is useful when you need to refine the search terms you have chosen or when you are looking for alternative search terms to broaden the scope of your search. Use Subjects  to browse for subject headings based on a term or concept.
     

    Exit PsycFIRST
    1.  Click the "x" in the upper right corner to close the >
    2. Click the Back button until you return to the “Research Quick Start” page.
