Library use of Computers and Multi-media

College Regulations on Computer Access

Seminole Community College provides computer access and capabilities at various locations on campus. Electronic access to resources via computer workstations is made available to support and enhance teaching, learning and academic endeavors of the College. We strive to make the best resources available to our students in order to enrich their learning opportunities.

The same morality and ethical behavior that applies in the non-computing environment applies in the computing environment. Abuse or misuse of computing services may violate user responsibility, SCC policy, or state and federal laws and can result at the very least in the loss of access privileges.

Use of Media in the Library

Non-print materials such as VHS, DVD, CD formats are available in the Circulation section for students to use in the media services AV viewing and listening area of all libraries. Some CDs are available for loan to students as well.

All media materials are selected in support of curriculum.

Headsets are available for use with equipment and in the library at PCs. Headsets may be checked out at the Circulation desk for use in the library.

Lab Rules of Conduct

Login IDs for the general purpose classroom/labs on each of SCC's three Campuses are valid for one academic year. Login IDs for and access to the Networking and CAD/Multimedia labs are valid for the current term and personal storage folders will be purged at the conclusion of the term.

Networking lab equipment is to be used for completing class assignments. Access after scheduled class times is permitted only when an assistant, lab manager or instructor is present.

Login IDs are to be used by the assigned student only. (See violation consequences below.)

Any attempt at security circumvention will result in a formal statement that will be submitted to the student disciplinary committee.

Computer and Internet activity is monitored.

There shall be no:
  • Children in any computer lab.
  • Food or drinks in any computer lab.
  • Installation of software.
  • Downloading of software unless directed to do so by the instructor.
  • Alterations to the computer configuration unless directed to do so by the instructor.
  • Use of any Instant Messaging application.
  • Listening to Internet audio/video sites unless directed to do so by the instructor.
  • Viewing non-class related materials on the Internet.
  • Wireless communications in the classroom: If you bring a beeper or cell phone into the classroom, it must be set to silent mode. All calls must be taken or made outside the classroom or lab.
Printing Restrictions:
  • Printing is for assignment related items only. An assignment is defined as any original material that an instructor requires the individual student to be turned in for a grade (one copy permitted).
  • Printing of personal items such as letters, resumes, etc, is prohibited.
  • Printing of CISCO curriculum or test questions is prohibited. **
Violation Consequences

A first violation will result in a warning and a review of this policy with the student.

The violation of Login ID sharing will automatically result in a formal statement that will be submitted to the student disciplinary committee. Network access will be void until the disciplinary committee has taken the appropriate action.
