Reference Services

Librarians and reference department staff assist students, faculty and staff by guiding researchers to the most appropriate resources and demonstrating their use. Library users may interact with the reference staff in person, over the phone, by e-mail, or live chat reference service. Reference librarians also perform collection development, conduct orientations to the library, and create instruction sessions to familiarize classes with library resources to complete assignments and conduct research.

Instruction and Orientation

Librarians provide instruction in library use, or orientations, to individuals, groups or classes with formal classes and self-paced tutorials. Streamed video orientations may be viewed by clicking on (link). Faculty may contact the Reference Desk (ext. 2305) to schedule library instruction or orientation at Sanford/Lake Mary campus; also, ext. 5062 at the Oviedo campus or ext 6025 at the Altamonte Campus.

Research Assistance

Ask a LibrarianResearch assistance is available on the Library web site, or by phone, or e-mail. Detailed Research Subject Guides are available for fields such as business, English, and psychology. "Ask a Librarian" is now available online.

Reference Librarians and staff

The reference departments at both campuses are staffed by faculty librarians, full-time and part-time library technical assistants. The reference desk is staffed at all times when the Library is open. Librarians are also available for private consultation, by appointment.
