Drop Below Full Course of Study

There are a few instances when an international student could be approved to drop below full course of study. Students must contact their International Advisor for eligibility, required documents and procedures. This process must be completed prior to dropping the course(s), otherwise students would be considered as "out-of-status." During the course of study within one program level, an F-1 immigrant can be authorized on one occasion to reduce his/her course load except for medical reasons (must be approved by immigration first).

Some possible reasons are:

  1. Severe illness or medical conditions (documentation required).
  2. Academic difficulties and/or improper course level placement (documentation required).
  3. Taking the only remaining courses necessary for his/her graduation.

To obtain the Reduction of Student Course Load form, contact your International Advisor. Remember it is student's responsibility to provide the form to the International Advisor in a timely fashion.
