Performance Appraisals for Non-instructional Staff

Seminole Community College is committed to being a great place to work. To that end, the College has determined that it is time to review and redesign the performance appraisal system for non-instructional employees, and to make the transition to a more performance-based method of compensation. A task group has been formed to work on this project. Specific tasks and desired outcomes include:

  • Refining/replacing the current performance appraisal tool;
  • Implementing a true merit program; and
  • Establishing how the program will be administered.

Task Group Members

Task group members were selected for their particular area of expertise (such as compensation, performance measures, statistics, psychology or research skills); their familiarity with the current appraisal instrument; their demonstrated expertise in providing feedback to employees; and/or their position at SCC. Group members are:

Project Work Plan and Timeline

According to the project work plan, the task group will complete its work by the end of July 2007. The plan allows enough time for final instrument preparation, possible migration to a Web-based format and employee training. The tentative timeline for the project and implementation is:

January 2007 Committee to convene and begin work with consultant
July 2007 Committee work is completed
August - September 2007 Proposal approved by SCC's Executive Team
Migration to Web-based instrument (if applicable)
October - December 2007 Supervisor training
November 2007 - January 2008 Information sessions for all employees
January - December 2008 First evaluation period with new instrument
January - March 2009 Completion of first appraisals using new instrument
July 1, 2009Effective date of pay plan implementing
principles of new performance appraisal system.
