Leave Information and Procedures

Full-time Employees Only

Vacation Leave

Twelve-month full-time employees will accrue vacation leave if they are on duty, or employed on college-designated paid non-duty days, or on approved paid leave for at least 82.5 hours within a calendar month. The monthly vacation rate will be according to the following schedule:

There is no provision for advancing vacation leave hours. No more than 330 hours can be carried forward into the next calendar year. Use of vacation leave must be approved. At time of separation, a maximum of 225 hours at the employee's current base hourly rate is payable. Payment of vacation leave for employees in grant funded positions are subject to funding. Use of vacation leave prior to separation may be required.

Hours in excess of 330 are transferred to a Sick Leave Carry-over account. Hours in the Sick Leave Carry-over account are not included in the terminal sick leave guidelines and are not included in any terminal pay.

Sick Leave

Full-time employees earn 7.5 hours of sick leave if they are on duty, or employed on college-designated paid non-duty days, or on approved paid leave for at least 82.5 hours within a calendar month. There is no limit to the amount of sick leave that can be carried forward into the next calendar year. At time of separation, employees who have completed ten years of employment at SCC are paid based on terminal sick leave guidelines. The pay rate is half their current base hourly rate at the time of separation.
Fiscal year hours are earned based on number of months of appointment as follows:

  • 164/164B-Day Contract 60 hours (8 days)
  • 196-Day Contract 75 hours (10 days)
  • 228-Day Contract 82.50 hours (11 days)
  • 12-Month Contract or Appointment 90 hours (12 days)

Upon separation or in cases of extended leaves, your posted, earned, and used leave hours will be reconciled. Hours used and paid in advance but not earned will need to be paid back by the employee.

Personal Leave

Each calendar year, eligible employees may use a maximum of thirty (30) hours of sick leave for personal reasons. Personal leave hours are non-cumulative.

Paid Holidays

Six paid holidays per year. In addition, the college closes for Spring Break and the Winter Holiday Break.
