History

  • Established in 1965, Seminole Community College (SCC) is a full-service education provider offering two-year college credit degrees (A.A., A.S. and A.A.S.); specialized career certificates; continuing professional education; customized workplace training; adult education; and community, leisure and youth programs.
  • Dr. Earl S. Weldon was appointed SCC’s first president in October 1965. Since that time, SCC has been accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees. In 1974, the Seminole Junior College District Board of Trustees approved the name of the institution to be changed to Seminole Community College.
  • SCC provides learning opportunities at two campuses, an instructional center, businesses, high schools and numerous outreach centers throughout Seminole County. The SCC at Sanford/Lake Mary campus resides on 200 acres of beautiful, rolling countryside, 15 miles north of Orlando, bordered by Sanford on the north and Lake Mary on the west.
  • To better serve the residents of southwest Seminole County, SCC opened the Hunt Club Instructional Center in 1987 offering college credit, career programs, Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and Community and Continuing Professional Education courses.
  • In February 1996, Dr. E. Ann McGee became the second president in the history of the College. That same year, the District Board of Trustees approved SCC’s purchase of a 161-acre tract of land in Oviedo for the development of a third educational facility. In January 2001, SCC at Oviedo joined the Sanford/Lake Mary campus and Hunt Club Center in addressing the rapidly growing educational and workforce development needs of eastern Seminole County.
