Web Page Review

The SCC web site must be maintained to be consistent with the current college marketing campaign. To ensure that our site remains consistent with this campaign, and to facilitate easy access and use by outside individuals, the following Web publication standards have been created.

The Web Guidelines Group, designed these standards for your use. Please go over each of the following points carefully and make any changes to your current Web page(s), as necessary.

The Web Guidelines Group will periodically conduct a review of all college-related web sites to insure that they conform to the established requirements. If problems are found during such a review, the web author or authors are responsible for the timely correction of these problems. (See our Web Author Notification Procedures for more information on our notification policy.) At the time of a review, suggestions may also be made regarding potential improvements of the design, functionality or content of the site. You may request a copy of the complete Web Review Checklist from the Webmasters Office, or access the online web review checklist.

Remember! All Web pages accessible from the SCC Web site may be subject to random audit by the Web Guidelines Group using the criteria on the list. At such time as your Web page/site is reviewed, you will be provided with feedback of the review results. (Please see our Web Author Notification Procedures for more information.) The elements included in this list follow the Technical Standards as defined in the SCC Web Development Guidelines.

(Follow this link to access a printable version of the review checklist developed for the purposes of page/site review.)

Design Considerations:

  • If you are using themes and navigation bars within FrontPage, place all pages into a "content" subfolder except for your home page, index.htm (or index.htm).
  • Do not use animations or blink tags. (They may be immediately removed by WebSupport.)
  • Do not use poor quality photos.
  • Do not underline text on the page. It confuses users by making them think the text is linked. Use bold or different colored text instead.
  • Do not use background sounds/music or load sounds or music automatically. It greatly increases load time and for the most part annoys the user.
  • Do not use Microsoft Word 2000 or XP as your html editor.

Word 2000 adds in extra elements which are not supported by some browsers and which may add to the load time of your pages.
  • In all ANGEL sites, choose one of the icon styles provided by ANGEL and remain consistent with that style throughout your site. Do not replace these icons with animated gifs or other random images. (They may be removed without warning by the SCC Webmaster or the Distance Learning Department.)

If you have licensed a prepackaged ANGEL site from a publisher, the specialized icons made by the publisher are also acceptable for use.

If you require additional icons that are not provided by ANGEL, contact the DL Department and icons will be created for you in keeping with your chosen style.
