Why did you choose SCC?
At the time, SCC was my only option; my other choices had fallen through due to finances. However, now I realize that going to SCC was the best decision I have ever made, and if I had to do it all over again, it would have been my first choice. It has been such a rewarding experience.

How would you describe your educational experience at SCC?
Recently I was able to sit in on some upper level classes at Stetson, my transfer university, and I was surprised that I was able to follow the lecture of a senior level course. I knew that my comprehension was a direct result of the excellent professors at SCC. They have provided me with a strong foundation on which to build the rest of my future, I feel confident and prepared to move forward with my education.

What have you accomplished both personally and professionally since you graduated from SCC?
Throughout my attendance at SCC I have grown incredibly. I started out feeling very lost, not knowing what the future would hold. SCC gave me a purpose and direction, along with the confidence to achieve my new goals.

How would you describe your "college" experience at SCC?
The "college" experience was much more enriching at a community college than I could have ever imagined. Initially I assumed that I would simply go to classes, and then come home. However, once I went on the leadership retreat, joined the honors program and Phi Theta Kappa, I soon realized that there was so much more to community college. I was able to meet amazing friends that made my college experience meaningful and exciting. There are so many great activities at SCC, and my only regret is that I didn't get involved in more of them.

What are your activities and hobbies?
While at SCC I was the president of Phi Theta Kappa and was constantly doing activities with them. I loved planning our activities, doing service projects, and having meetings with our amazing officers. Phi Theta Kappa was my primary activity while at SCC. Currently, I work at the SCC admissions office, and love being able to interact with students. In my free time I love going to theme parks-water parks, animal parks, thrill ride parks-I love them all. I go as often as I can.

How did your experience at SCC impact your life?
My experience at SCC has impacted my life in ways I could have never imagined. When I came here I did not know what kind of career path I wanted to follow. At SCC, I developed a passion for community college, and now hope to be a community college professor, teaching College Success and Oral Communications. I also hope to one day be a part of or start an Honors program at a community college. SCC gave me a direction and a focus for my career plans that I thought I would never find. The experience at SCC also opened doors to many great opportunities, such as joining the Honors Institute, Phi Theta Kappa, and winning the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship. I feel so blessed to have been a part of SCC, and I hope that one day I will be able to give back to community college students who are just as lost as I was.

Why would you recommend SCC to a potential student?
I think SCC is a great decision for college and I would recommend it to every student for so many reasons:

  • The tuition is reasonable.
  • The quality of the education is rich.
  • The classes are small.
  • The activities are fun.
  • The faculty is dedicated.
  • The time you gain to decide your future is priceless.

In my experience, if explored for all it has to offer, SCC is a private college education for a public college's price. It is the best decision I have ever made, and it is my career goal to do whatever I can to encourage other students to make the same decision.
