Student Spotlight: GrantHometown: Longwood, FL
Notable Accomplishments/Awards: I was awarded the Governor's Point of Light Award which recognizes Florida residents for their community service efforts. Also, during my time as a dual-enrolled student, I received the Disney Dreamer and Doer Award. Why did you choose SCC? I started at SCC as a dual enrolled student taking both high school and college credit classes during my senior year of high school. When it was time to become a full-time college student, I chose SCC because I already loved it here. I love the campus, being close to home, and the faculty. It's just a good place and environment for learning. How would you describe your educational experience at SCC? The education you receive is top quality. I will be transferring to a four year university and I doubt that the quality of my education at that university will be any better than the education I received at SCC. What are your post-SCC/career plans? I will be attending Brigham Young University in Utah after I complete a two-year mission for my church. After I receive my B.S. in Music from BYU I would like to go to medical school and study to become a family doctor. How would you describe your "college" experience at SCC? The people at SCC are wonderful, especially the faculty and staff. I'm always comfortable and at home when I am there. Also, since I am living at home there is a lot less stress and more study time. What are your activities and hobbies? I am a musician. I sing, play piano and guitar, and I've been beat boxing for about six years. I also enjoy sound engineering and recording, graphic arts and Web design. I am also very involved with church duties and activities. How has your experience at SCC impacted your life? I am stronger than when I started. Throughout high school I thought I would be attending an out-of-state school and was a little scared of leaving home and fending for myself. I wanted to do well, but I needed to learn how college worked. That is what I got at SCC. Now, I can go to a larger institution and feel comfortable and prepared. I also feel more prepared to tackle life in general. Why would you recommend SCC to a potential student? For all the reasons I have stated above. The campuses are clean and up-to-date. The people are friendly and helpful. The education is top notch. Lastly, you can't beat the price. I love it! |
