SCC receives $1 million donation from Insight Financial

Insight Financial Presents SCC with $1 million gift The first $1 million corporate donation to the SCC Foundation was announced at the Foundation's annual Presidents' Club dinner on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007.

Insight Financial Credit Union President/CEO Lynn Owen III and his company, ardent supporters of SCC, presented the donation during the dinner at the Heathrow Country Club. The contribution will be used toward the future construction of a signature building on SCC's Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.

"The contributions made by SCC to the community are incredible," Owen said. "We are proud to stand as a partner with the faculty, staff, and students of SCC."

According to Owen, the goal of this first-ever $1 million corporate gift is to enhance opportunities for SCC and its students. In particular, Insight Financial hopes to provide educational opportunities for students with regards to personal and professional finance and employment opportunities, Owen said.

This gift is only the second $1 million donation in SCC's history, but the first from a corporate partner. In 2006, former state representative Art Grindle presented the SCC Foundation with a $1 million personal donation to establish The Art & Phyllis Grindle Honors Institute at SCC.

"Insight Financial is one of those rare companies that are always willing to participate and contribute to life at SCC," said Matthew Hodge, executive director of the SCC Foundation.

Selected as the first recipient for the SCC Foundation's Corporate Champion Award, Insight Financial Credit Union has consistently sponsored various fund-raising events and generously donated to the Foundation.

The event, under the theme "Power of Partnership," recognized the support of the College's Presidents' Club, which consists of individual donors who contribute a minimum annual unrestricted gift of $1,000. These gifts are then applied at the discretion of the College President and the SCC Foundation Board of Directors to the areas of greatest need at the College. The featured speaker, Walt Disney World Resorts president Meg Crofton, also discussed the importance of partnerships.

Insight Financial is based in Orlando and has 10 Central Florida locations. The Credit Union has been in business for more than 65 years and serves more than 55,000 members.
