Endowed Teaching Chairs
Endowed Teaching Chairs are awards granted to SCC faculty to acknowledge the invaluable contributions they make to Seminole Community College as outstanding educators. Applicants are nominated by their fellow faculty and staff members.
A committee comprised of SCC faculty and staff gathers and reviews a wide array of information about each nominee. Classroom visits to observe teaching style are also arranged. A committee of members from the Foundation Board of Directors review the nominations forwarded to them by SCC selection committees and interview the finalists. Honorees receive a cash award.
Establishing an Endowed Teaching Chair
Many colleges and universities use the premise of an Endowed Teaching Chair award to attract prominent researchers to join their faculty. However, at a community college, the main purpose of a teaching chair is to reward those who work the hardest for the students. Our goal at SCC is to best facilitate the learning process so that our students may graduate with the strongest educational foundation possible.
An Endowed Teaching Chair is fully funded and ready to be endowed once it has reached $100,000. Since donations toward these chairs are state match eligible, a donation of $60,000 is made over a period of three years. The state match will currently provide the additional $40,000.
If you are interested in establishing an Endowed Teaching Chair at Seminole Community College, please contact Dr. Matthew Hodge, Executive Director of the SCC Foundation.
Endowed Teaching Chair Nominations
The nomination period for Endowed Teaching Chairs takes place at the start of the Spring semester, usually between January and February.
An e-mail announcement is sent to all SCC faculty and staff, and notifications are also posted on the Web site.
Any questions concerning Endowed Teaching Chair nominations can be emailed to the SCC Foundation.
