Firefighter I and II - Minimum Fire Standards ProgramThe Minimum Fire Standards Program at SCC is widely regarded as one of the best in Florida. A firefighter functions to provide service to the community in preventing loss of life and property from natural and man made disasters. Firefighters must function in a broad spectrum of responsibilities ranging from public education to firefighting and emergency medical care. Graduates of SCC's Fire Academy will be able to perform these duties in a prompt, dependable, and safe manner. Florida Requirements for the Professional FirefighterAccording to Florida statues, a full time paid firefighter must be certified by the bureau of Fire Standards and Training, commonly known as Minimum Fire Standards. Minimum Fire Standards Course DescriptionMinimum Fire Standards prepares students for careers as state certified professional firefighters. The program consists of lecture and practical application that exceed the course hour requirements set by the state of Florida. Students will receive in depth instruction into the broad functions required for a fire fighter, including fire department communications, basic building construction, and live fire training.
