The Fire Science Program
Students enrolled in Seminole Community College's Fire Science Technology
program earn their Associate of Science Degree while gaining valuable
in the field training. The faculty consists of veteran fire/rescue/EMS
personnel who are currently employed by local agencies. Every
instructor at SCC boasts at least six years of firefighting experience.
The program combines major courses such as Fire Investigation,
Hazardous Materials, Fire Protection Systems, and Fire Company
Administration with a well-rounded general education curriculum.
Specialty courses and training which meet the State Bureau of Fire
Standards requirements can qualify students to take the Fire Officer I
and Fire Inspector state certification exams. Students seeking entry
level employment as firefighters must take the vocational Fire Fighting
Minimum Standards course, which is available at SCC.
All Fire Science programs are fully accredited and supported by
local fire departments and the Seminole County Fire Training Directors
Committee.
SCC's Fire Academy boasts facilities that are second to none, which
will include a new state of the art burn building complex slated to
open in July 2005. The building will allow the Fire Academy to offer
more advanced courses in fire fighting and emergency rescue while
providing students with one of the most advanced training facilities in
Florida.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Fire Science Technology Associate in Science degree
program may expect to find employment opportunities with public fire
departments, insurance companies, industrial firms, governmental
agencies, educational organizations, and fire protection manufacturing
and research groups.
For students wishing to further their education upon completion of
their A.S. degree in Fire Science, an Articulation agreement exists
with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration at the University
of Central Florida (UCF).
