Advisory Committee Meeting
Minutes - September 9, 2004
Members Present:
Susan Bell, Patricia Cason, John Delgado, Dick Grant, Jeff Smith, Christine Stillings, Nana Robertson, Marcia Roman, Laura Ross
Logo, Banners, Door Sign:
The committee examined the new logo (see above) for the Faculty Institute. Banners and a door sign are being ordered with the help of Susanne Huber and the marketing department.
Faculty Surveys:
Ninety hard copies and sixty-two electronic versions of the faculty survey were submitted. All surveys will be entered into a database so that the responses can be analyzed more effectively. Nana Robertson graciously offered the services of her work-study student, Dawn Wood, for data entry.
John Delgado provided an initial analysis of the electronic surveys. He is monitoring the database and will merge the new surveys with the previous records when all data entry is complete.
Scheduling Workshops:
Several faculty members have already offered to present workshops. The committee discussed the idea of paying SCC faculty for presenting workshops on campus. Several of the committee members felt faculty should not be paid. (The college currently offers double professional development hours for presenting a workshop or seminar.)
Committee members felt it would be more important to put money towards creating a collegial place for learning with comfortable furniture and food. (Food cannot be purchased with Title III money, but Michael Garlich in marketing has set aside food money for Title III events.) Another option would be to pay faculty for the initial creation of the workshop rather than the presentation(s) of the workshop. No final decision was made on paying faculty presenters.
Laura Ross will follow up with UCF to see if and how SCC faculty can attend UCF Faculty Center workshops. In a previous visit, Dr. Morrison-Shetlar said she would welcome attendance by SCC faculty. For most of the UCF workshops, videoconferencing is available, but committee members were also interested in attending activities on the UCF campus.
All committee members were asked to forward names of interesting speakers that they have heard at conferences and other venues.
Faculty Coffee and Conversation:
Soon the Faculty Institute will open twice per week for faculty to enjoy "Coffee and Conversation." Committee members were asked to think of a better name for these gatherings. The times are being planned for Tuesdays 9:15am-10:00am and Wednesdays 4:00pm-4:45pm. Faculty will be able to enjoy free coffee, browse reading materials, hear about upcoming events, and hold conversations with other faculty members.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 pm.
The next meeting is scheduled for October 11, 2004, 12:30 - 3:30 pm
