    Advisory Committee Meeting
    Minutes - November 4, 2005

    Members Present:

Susan Bell, John Delgado, Dick Grant, Barbara Hunnicutt, Nana Robertson, Laura Ross, Jeff Smith, Christine Stillings

    Recorder: Verna Legg

    Review of Professional Development Day:

Laura Ross advised that Professional Development Day had a very good turn out with total attendance of 211 for the six events. Susan Bell suggested room L232 for future events needing a larger space. The Committee discussed the possibility of having Professional Development Day on Friday rather than during the week.

Endowed Teaching Chairs and International Travel:

Laura Ross advised that she and Barbara Hunnicutt attended the Endowed Teaching Chair meeting recently. The Endowment Fund has allotted money for three SCC faculty to attend the Salzburg Seminar or a similar symposium each year. The Committee agreed that each faculty member should commit to share their experience by presenting a workshop for other faculty. Applicants would also be asked to submit a letter of intent including how they would incorporate this into their teaching and how it would be beneficial to them as well as SCC.

Laura advised that she had spoken to the three SCC faculty members who attended the Salzburg Seminar last summer, Frank Albritton, Marisabel Izirrary, and Stephen Summers. They will develop a presentation to share their experience with other faculty members. The Committee discussed having the appropriate materials available at the presentation for applying for next year's seminar. The Committee decided a good time for this presentation would be January 4 or 5, 2006.

    Spanish Sessions:

Laura Ross advised that Lucia Dzikowski said she would be willing to present a four week Spanish class for faculty. Laura will coordinate getting this on our events schedule. Jeff Smith asked if this could be broadcast to the Oviedo Campus.

    WebCT Sessions:

The Committee discussed workshops on WebCT for faculty interested in enhancing their courses.

The Committee suggested offering the next Teaching Success Series in the summer or fall and the WebCT training in the spring. They recommended that the WebCT sessions be held on Thursday, 4:30-6:00, in the spring and to keep classes to around 30 people. Classes will start in mid-January and J103 was suggested as a suitable room.

    Nickel and Dimed/Speaker on Poverty:

Laura Ross discussed bringing in Tony Johnson as a speaker on poverty for one of our workshops. He spoke at Tallahassee Community College and comes highly recommended. Nickel and Dimed, by Barbara Ehreureich was discussed as a possible book for One College, One Book. This book would tie to the speaker on poverty.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:00 pm.
