    Advisory Committee Meeting
    Minutes - April 8, 2005

    Members Present:

Susan Bell, Barbara Hunnicutt, Nana Robertson, Laura Ross, Jeff Smith, Christine Stillings, Susan Weinman

    Recorder: Verna Legg

    March Events:

Laura Ross advised that all events went well. The Thomson presentation on an electronic response system had about 20 attendees. The faculty enjoyed the presentation and some of them are looking into it for future use. The Kite Runner discussion had 7 Honor students and 20 faculty. This was enjoyed by all and a discussion followed that it would be nice to have future events of this type. Laura Ross advised that Faculty Coffee attendance has been down, and it was decided not to continue the coffees for the remainder of this term. It was discussed that having a Faculty Coffee/Social once a month with a specific topic would create more interest from faculty. The last New Faculty Program lunch was held with 45 attendees including administrators.

    New Faculty Evaluation:

Laura Ross distributed a draft of a New Faculty Survey. This evaluation survey should give us an idea of how and if we are making a difference with the New Faculty Program. It was suggested it might be very helpful to extend a version of the survey to all faculty members.

    Dr. Ken Bain's Visit:

The committee discussed Dr. Bain's visit to SCC on April 15. Laura Ross invited committee members to meet Dr. Bain during his visit to the Faculty Institute from 10:30-11:00 and also to join him for lunch from 11:00-12:00. Committee members should contact Laura Ross if they want to join Dr. Bain for lunch. The committee discussed the possibility of having Dr. Bain's speech video taped since there are conflicting events going on that day. Laura Ross will look into this option.

    CCSSE Discussion - Tuesday, May 17, 1:30:

It was discussed to change the meeting time to Tuesday, May 17 at 3:00 dur to some Faculty conflicts. A panel of faculty and administrators wil share the results from the Seminole Community College CCSSE data; then a discussion will follow on what the college and faculty can do to meet student's academic needs.

    Advisory Committee for 2005-2006:

Laura Ross asked the Committee members to email her by May 1, 2005, only if they cannot server for the upcoming year.

    May Meeting Time:

The Committee discussed and decided that a meeting time of 1:00 pm, any afternoon would best fit their schedules in the Summer. Absent committee members will be contacted about this possible meeting time.

    Adjunct Academy:

The Committee discussed the return of the Adjunct Academy and the collaboration of Human Resources and the Faculty Institute to revise this program. Laura Ross advised that she had spoken to the Deans regarding this issue, and the Deans thought it should fall under the Faculty Institute. The Faculty Institute will work with HR to see what kind of presentations would be beneficial to adjuncts. It was suggested that one or two adjuncts be involved in the discussions.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:05 am.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 12, 2005, 1:00 pm.
