Members Present: Laura Ross, John Delgado, Nana Robertson, Gina Fontana, Jeff Smith, Christine Stillings, Christina Franklin, Marcia Roman, Susan Weinman, and Dick Grant
Recorder: Lisa Hackett
-
Welcome and Happy Birthday: Welcome aboard to new Advisory Committee Meeting Member Gina Fontana and Happy Birthday to Susan Weinman.
-
Clickers: Twenty-five CPS (Classroom Performance Systems) "Clickers" have been approved for purchase for the Faculty Institute to use during workshops and for faculty to use. We are at this time waiting for product information from three vendors to go forward with the purchase.
-
Adjunct Dinner: Laura Ross said she spoke to Dr. Hawkins regarding the concerns discussed in relation to the Adjunct Dinner. The idea is to have a Saturday morning informative session to improve and enhance the adjuncts' first experiences. Dr. Hawkins was going to take this information to the Deans and get back with Laura.
-
Faculty Institute Website: John Delgado advised that he and Frank Albritton have been hard at work to get the Faculty Institute Web page and Web site through the SCC Web site.
-
Computer Technology Services: Julio Valentin advised Laura Ross on researching an interactive device to make the broadcasts of workshops to other campuses a more rewarding experience. The device will cost approximately $10,000 and come from Title III funds. Julio will set up a demonstration before any purchasing decisions are made.
-
Summer Coffees: Summer coffees were discussed in lieu of workshops for the summer session. Some other ideas were: Dr. Henningsen's workshop on Student Retention and Success, or a series workshop by Ed Chin and Scott Freeman. A possible coffee topic is further discussion of the book Nickel and Dimed.
-
Professional Development Day and Welcome Back: As the committee discussed the agenda for Professional Development Day and Welcome Back, Marcia Roman advised that one of the Action Steps for the Strategic College Plan is to define what measures SCC is going to use toward retention collegewide. She mentioned a Student Success Counsel and Quality Enhancement Plan to improve student experiences and learning. The committee discussed the possibility of mini workshops or a "break out by benchmarks" luncheon to discuss, within their own groups, each of the 5 benchmarks to prepare for the spring 2007 re-take of the CCSSE. Marcia also related that it would be a good time to hear Jim Henningsen's lecture on the strategies to increase and improve the things that are assessed by CCSSE benchmark scores at Welcome Back. Laura advised that Disabled Student Services wanted to present a workshop during Welcome Back week as well. Collectively, it was discussed to get the entire campus involved on Professional Developmental Day, including Student Affairs, Grounds Keeping, Facilities Maintenance, etc.
-
Faculty Survey Report: The Faculty Survey will be completed again in the fall and decisions need to be made about what we want on the survey. Do we want to change or add anything on the survey from the last two years? The committee suggested a question about alternative delivery methods such as pod casting or streaming video. The tentative revision of the Faculty Survey will be at the next meeting.
-
2006-2007 Committee Members Re-enlist: Thank you Committee Members present who re-enlisted for Faculty Institute Advisory Committee for the academic 2006-2007 year.
