-
Introduction and welcome of Frank Albritton who will assume Dr. Stephen Caldwell Wright's position of Coordinator/Director of SCC's Title III Strengthening Institution Grant upon Dr. Wrights retirement June 30, 2006.
-
Laura Ross discussed purchasing a set of 35 "Clickers" for classroom use in sessions. The "Clickers" would reduce paperwork and would be a great way to introduce faculty in how to use them. Beverly Bailey offered to have a limited number of faculty observe her using them in a classroom setting on Tuesday, March 7, from 2 - 3 p.m. in room J-105.
-
Marcia Roman advised the CCSSE (Community College Survey of Student Endangerment) will be administered again at all 28 Florida community colleges in 2007. The 2005-2006 strategic plan for the Florida Community College System States as a success indicator that all colleges will improve baseline CCSSE scores from the 2004 survey administration. We might consider re-running sessions on CCSSE, or offering different ones, so that we are prepared by more fully adopting strategies known to improve student learning and persistence and can improve our benchmark scores in 2007.
-
It was discussed by all present members the possibility of video tape recording all workshops and notifying Department Chairs of the availability of the video or DVD copies for the faculty. It was also noted the 5 - 6 p.m. time slot for scheduling of workshops was not an agreeable time.
-
Dick Grant asked if media could possibly show the videotaped workshops on a website like MYSCC where faculty could sign in, watch the presentation and have an evaluation sheet at the end.
-
Summer Ideas: Barbara Hunnicutt proposed brown bag lunches instead of formal meetings for the summer.
-
Welcome Back Faculty: Nana Robertson discussed offering more for Adjuncts especially when they first arrive being they are more willing to do things and get involved, offer them a seat on the faculty senate. Also to consider offering conferences at different times of the day and evenings on a rotating basis during summer 3B session instead of dinner to maximize time, or all year long training instead of jamming it all into one. Nana also suggested the name be the "Adjunct Welcome Conference," possibly adding a supplement in the faculty handbook.
-
Nickel and Dimed: The committee discussed whether or not the students and staff would be invited to come to the workshop and be a part of the discussion as well. Marcia suggested Student Affairs be made aware and ask them to become involved.
-
Conversational Spanish for Faculty: Laura advised the workshop went well, had a larger turn out in the beginning than what we ended up with, but overall was a success and fun.
The meeting adjourned at 1 p.m.
