Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
Tutors
DSS
is staffed with tutors available for tutoring during posted hours.
Students whose accommodations include a tutor will be matched with a
peer tutor. The student must come to each tutoring session prepared
(attempt all homework, be on time, etc.). Personal tutorials are
limited to as many hours as class hours (e.g. three credit class =
three hours of tutoring). Tutors are only provided for courses in which
students are currently enrolled, and only for courses directly impacted
by the disability. Students with disabilities may choose to take
advantage of tutors in the Learning Center who are available to all
students.
Testing Accommodations
Students
requiring only extended time on exams must make prior arrangements with
the instructor to take the exam in the Make-Up Testing Center. Once the
instructor has placed the exam in the Make-Up Testing Center, the
student must make an appointment by calling 407.708.2311 or stopping by.
Only
students requiring direct assistance (oral exams, scribe, etc.) will
take exams in DSS. Students must discuss special testing needs with the
instructor and make an appointment in DSS for administration of the
exam.
Readers, Notetakers, Interpreters
DSS
makes arrangements for readers for students with blindness/visual
impairments or reading disabilities, sign language or oral interpreters
for students who have hearing impairments, and notetakers for students
who are unable to take notes because of various disabilities. Provision
of these services is made on an individual-needs basis.
Special
Equipment
Contact
DSS for an updated list of the specialized equipment available. Such
equipment includes talking calculators, screen readers, adaptive
computers and other assistive devices.
