Distance Learning Welcome Information
The Distance Learning Department provides welcome information for all students enrolled in DL courses. Please select the links below to download or view our information in Microsoft Word or PDF file format.
Getting Started:
- Step one: Confirm whether or not there are any required on campus meetings for your class. Some (but not all) of our distance learning courses have mandatory on campus orientations and/or proctored testing for mid-terms and finals. Many instructors will withdraw you from the course if you do not attend the mandatory orientation. You can locate orientation and exam information by checking the notes for your class in Spectrum, by selecting the "Class Details" link in MySCC, or by viewing our list of DL courses organized by term at http://www.scc-fl.edu/dl/courses/. Orientation and exam information is provided for all DL courses where applicable. If there is an orientation for your course, make sure that you attend.
- Step two: Check to see if there is an instructor letter for your class. Some instructors provide an instructor letter for individual sections of their courses. All of the available instructor welcome letters are posted online. To view the letter for your course, go to the DL search page and search for the course, class number or instructor. If you do not see a "welcome letter" link for your course, that means your instructor has not provided a letter for that class. In that event, you will need to contact the instructor directly if you have questions about the course. Please be advised that not all instructors choose to post this information for each class or each term. Pay close attention to the class and term number listed for each welcome letter and syllabus. If the class and term number are not the same as your class this term, the information shown on that page may not apply to you.
- Step three: If your class uses ANGEL, be sure to log in to ANGEL as soon as the term begins. (You will not be able to log in prior to the term start date.) Many instructors will withdraw students if they do not log in to ANGEL by the end of the add/drop period. For more information on logging in to ANGEL, please visit our ANGEL Help page. If you have trouble logging in once classes have begun, please contact the DL Office for help.
