Video Courses @ SCCSCC has a variety of video courses available. A video course is instruction delivered via a collection of video programs which can be viewed in several different formats. SCC video courses earn the same credits as classroom courses. The difference is in the delivery method and the student's role in distance learning coursework. Communication with your instructor will be through phone, mail or office hour contact. It is possible that contact with classmates may not occur at all. Video courses include the following components:
Video courses are no longer broadcast via cable, and video course publishers and distributors are moving away from VHS format. Now and in future terms, students will be able to view the programs in a variety of formats, including VideoCD, DVD and Video Streaming online. Many of our students have expressed a preference for viewing their video course programs in a digital format. SCC will no longer be loaning out VHS videotape sets to students. Beginning with the Spring 2006 term, students will be required to rent or purchase their own course materials, or they may come to the SCC library to view the videos on-site. Please refer to the chart below for information on obtaining student materials directly.
Video/Web Course Requirements
Video/Web Courses:Video/Web courses combine video instruction with online course components using the ANGEL course delivery tool. Video components require access to a television and VCR or DVD player, or computer capable of viewing DVDs, VideoCDs and/or broadband Internet access for Video Streaming. (If you do not have this equipment at home, you can view the videos on-site at one of our campus LRC/Library locations.) Online components require access to a computer with Internet connection. (If you do not have a computer and Internet access at home, you may use the open computer labs on campus to complete your coursework.) For more information about the course requirements or components, contact the instructor by e-mail or phone. Video/Campus Courses:Video/Campus courses combine video and on-campus modes of delivery. These courses meet on campus for approximately 25 percent of the time for face-to-face instruction, discussion and testing. The other 75 percent of the course is conducted via videotape. The components and requirements for a video/campus course are the same as those for video courses. Contact your instructor for more information on scheduled meeting times, dates and locations. |
