Distance Learning Staff

  • Wilma Hodges, manager of distance learning services, manages the day-to-day operations of the department; provides leadership in the College's distance learning initiatives; and assists faculty members in transitioning from classroom instruction to various modes of instructional delivery (i.e. online, video and technology-enhanced), via technology and in preparing course materials.
Hodges conducts ANGEL and other training workshops for SCC employees and is the primary ANGEL administrator for the College.
Hodges has a B.A. in English literature, a B.A. in psychology and an M.A. in technical writing from the University of Central Florida. She taught technical writing online at SCC for more than five years and has been involved with distance learning and online initiatives for more than 10 years. Hodges also serves as the official SCC representative to the statewide Florida Distance Learning Consortium.
  • Joni Miller, instructional technology specialist, joined the SCC Distance Learning staff in February 2004. Her responsibilities include support, assistance and training for faculty members in developing online instructional materials; reviewing new and current courses for usability and quality assurance; providing ANGEL support for faculty members and students; responding to distance learning help desk inquiries; and assisting in the maintenance and development of the distance learning Web site. She is also an ANGEL administrator at SCC.
Miller completed her master's degree in technical writing at UCF in December 2007. She has a strong background in faculty support, online course development and Web design.
  • Keith Fowlkes, instructional technology specialist, joined the SCC Distance Learning staff in July 2008.
Fowlkes is originally from Mississippi, where he earned his B.S. in mathematics from Mississippi College. He has been working in instructional design since 2000 at various institutions, including the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Ohio State University Newark, Central Ohio Technical College, and most recently, Northern Kentucky University. He is also in the M.S. program for administration in higher education at Capella University.

Fowlkes' interests include the integration of Bloom's Taxonomy, the hybrid model and instructional design within online learning environments.
  • Margaret Taylor, distance learning support specialist, joined the SCC Distance Learning staff in September 2008. Taylor brings with her 15 years experience in customer service and seven years of information technologies experience.
Taylor is working on her B.A. in data communication system technology at ITT Technology Institute, and her special areas of expertise include troubleshooting software and hardware issues, data backup and recovery and in-home wireless installation.
