More than 200 attend Digital Media's Freaks and Geeks Event
 (Nov. 10, 2008) Nearly 200 people attended Freaks and Geeks, an annual event organized by SCC's Digital Media Program, on Oct. 30 at the Center for Economic Development at Heathrow. Those attending included students, prospective students, alumni, parents, vendors, industry partners and professionals. Mark Krupinski, community manager for Rasmussen College and a founding member of Doterati, Central Florida's new interactive marketing, media and technology association, was the speaker. His presentation focused on the uses of social media in education.  Other participating vendors and organizations included Ad2 Orlando, ADOGO (Adobe Developers Group of Greater Orlando), Digital Media Alliance Florida, Doterati, Fidelity Printing, the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy, Gigabits LAN Center, Glitch Gaming Apparel, Lake Mary Computer Store, the Orlando Advertising Federation, Pearson Education and RanDOM (Florida Creatives). The ninth annual event also included a design, digital photography and networking competitions, along with the featured PC LAN gaming competition. The award ceremony's prizes were mostly provided by Pearson Education, but The Orlando Science Center provided a 52-inch HD monitor that displayed examples of Machinima, which is filmmaking in real-time 3-D virtual environments, most often using 3-D video game technologies.
