Advising

Students are encouraged to meet with a counselor or educational adviser each term to discuss, clarify or refine educational or career goals.

Counselors and educational advisers can assist students with:

  • Getting started at SCC
  • Navigating the college system
  • Placement test interpretation
  • Program/degree and certificate requirements
  • Major selection
  • Prerequisite courses for major
  • Educational plan
  • Graduation audit
  • Information about college support systems
  • College policies/procedures

Educational Plan (EP)

The Educational Plan is an individualized term-by-term plan of course requirements needed to complete a degree/certificate. Your advisor can design a personalized Education Plan for you during your advising session. Call 407.708.2337 for an appointment during non-registration periods to develop your Education Plan.

Confidentiality Policy

All information disclosed during a session is confidential and will not be revealed to anyone outside of the Counseling and Educational Planning Office without written permission of the student, except under three conditions:

  1. Where disclosure is required by law (i.e. when there is reasonable suspicion of abuse of children or elderly persons, or by court-ordered subpoena).
  2. Where the student presents a serious danger of violence to another.
  3. Where the student is likely to harm him/herself unless protective measures are taken.

Please know that our policy of confidentiality is rarely breached. But in the unlikely event that it is, your counselor will make every effort to let you know before doing so.
