President E. Ann McGee Letter from 6/18/2007

College committees are an important part of the planning and governance system of Seminole Community College. I would like to thank the 148 faculty and staff who offered to serve on one or more standing college committees this year. The committee appointments for the next two years are now available for your review in the attachment provided below. Committee information, including the appointment list, will also be available on the Standing Committee website http://www.scc-fl.edu/committees. Please refer to additional information below for specific details about committee work this year.

As you may recall, the procedures were revised in 2005 for committee members to be appointed each year to staggered two-year terms, thus allowing for continuity in the annual operation and planning for the future. The process this year extended beyond the time that the appointments would have been made for 2006-2008. Because of that, we will be asking members of the 2007-2009 committees who do not serve because of position or title, to determine amongst themselves who will serve one year or two year terms. Those who volunteer to serve a one-year term will leave that committee in 2008, and are encouraged to submit their names for committee service when the request goes out for the 2008-2010 committee volunteers.

Because vacancies were limited, some who volunteered could not be placed on a committee. Anyone not appointed this year can look forward to another opportunity to volunteer next spring when additional people will be appointed for 2008-2010. From that point forward, we expect the process to run smoothly as volunteers respond each spring and the committee appointments are released in May for the coming fall term. It is anticipated that with this information available, as we return in August, committees will be able to start meeting in a timely manner.

This is the first year that the committee process has been presented electronically. The committee volunteer submissions were also done online. The Standing Committee website was developed to house all of the committee procedures, meeting forms, information for chair and member responsibilities, and to display any other pertinent information. SCC Today and SCC News has been used along with email distribution to keep everyone informed.

Many thanks, in advance, to the Committee to Appoint Committees (CTAC), to all volunteers and appointees, and to all college employees for your active participation in our committee process.
