A content management system (or CMS) is a system used to organize and facilitate collaborative content creation.  In our case it is a program that allows us to update, maintain and publish the content of the SCC Website.

The content is stored in an online database and then presented to the user via a system of preformatted templates.  This concept allows us to easily change the design of the Web site (since the design is separate from the content).  It also allows for the creation of multiple versions of the same content from the same data (such as for wireless users or users with disabilities).

Benefits of a CMS include:

  • Streamlined authoring
  • Faster turn-around time for new pages
  • Greater site consistency
  • Support for de-centralized authoring
  • Increased security
  • Support for multiple delivery platforms
