Disability Support Services

Through this office, students may request academic support services such as interpreters, note takers, tutors and testing accommodations. Disability Support Services coordinates services with area agencies and college departments, and conducts workshops to help faculty and students create a positive learning environment for students with disabilities and suggests strategies that can be used to make the classroom "user-friendly" for the student. DSS also facilitates support groups to help students understand their rights and responsibilities, and acts as an advocate for students with a disability on campus.

To be eligible for disability-related services, individuals must have a documented disability as defined by applicable federal and state laws. Services are available to students whose disabilities include, but are not limited to, hearing impairments, mobility impairments, specific learning disabilities (such as dyslexia), speech impairments, visual impairments or other disabilities which require administrative or academic accommodations. Individuals seeking services are required to provide recent documentation from an appropriate healthcare provider or professional.

Students who have a disability which may require special assistance must contact Disability Support Services, make an appointment for an intake interview, and bring appropriate disability documentation. Reasonable accommodation requests must be supported by the documentation. All information is confidential and will be used only to assist the student.
