Liberal Studies Program: A Learning CommunityThe Liberal Studies Program: A Learning Community enables young people with GPAs of 3.0 or better to become a part of a rigorous plan of study focusing on the liberal arts. Students are a part of a group whose activities and curriculum are closely monitored by a director of the program and three department chairs whose faculty constitute the program faculty. The Liberal Studies program is a 27 hour program designed to appeal to the student with at least a 2.5 entry GPA whose interests are not directed toward science, mathematics or a primarily Euro-centric curriculum. The sequencing of the classes has been arranged so that, wherever possible, the inter-relatedness of courses is emphasized. Faculty are encouraged to coordinate assignments and discussions to further emphasize an interdisciplinary foundation. One of the objectives of the Liberal Studies program is to foster an appreciation for the variety of cultures which will exist in our students' post-academic world. Further, the Liberal Studies program, immersed in a critical thinking ideology, uses academic experiences, close interaction with faculty and innovative teaching techniques to improve student performance and retention. |
