Statement of Rules and Regulations

General Statement

All students are expected to be aware of rules, regulations and other information provided in this catalog; the Library Handbook; the Student Rights and Responsibilities section of the Student Handbook; and on bulletin boards. The Director of Enrollment Services and Registrar is given the responsibility of interpreting the College catalog, regarding admission, registration and graduation. When indicated, he will seek Board approval and/or consult with the Admissions and Graduation Committee of the College. It is the student's responsibility to coordinate their program at Seminole Community College with that of the senior college or university of their choice. If necessary, any of the College's regulations, policies, schedules and courses may be changed without notice.

Equal Access/Equal Opportunity

The District Board of Trustees of Seminole Community College affirms its equal opportunity policy in accordance with the provisions of the Florida Educational Equity Act and all other relevant state and federal laws, rules and regulations. Notification of Students Rights under Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights with respect to their education records.
They are:

1. The right to inspect and review the student's educational records within 45 days of the day Seminole Community College receives a request for access. Students should submit to the Registrar, head of the academic department or other appropriate official written requests that identify the record(s) they wish to inspect. Seminole Community College officials will make arrangements for access and notify the student of the time and place where the records may be inspected. If the records are not maintained by the Seminole Community College official to whom the request was submitted, that official shall advise the student of the correct official to whom the request should be addressed.
2. The right to request the amendment of the student's education records that the student believes are inaccurate or misleading. Students may ask Seminole Community College to amend a record that they believe is inaccurate or misleading. They should write the Seminole Community College official responsible for the record; clearly identify the part of the record they want changed; and specify why it is inaccurate or misleading. If Seminole Community College decides not to amend the record as requested by the student, Seminole Community College will notify the student of the decision and advise the student of his or her right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the student when notified of the right to a hearing.
3. The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student's education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent. One exception that permits disclosure without consent is disclosure to school official with legitimate educational interests. A school official is a person employed by Seminole Community College in an administrative, supervisory, academic or research, or support staff position, including law enforcement unit personnel; a person or company with whom Seminole Community College has contracted, such as an attorney, auditor or collection agent; a person serving on the District Board of Trustees; or a student serving on an official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance committee, or assisting another school official in performing his or her tasks. A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an educational record to fulfill his/her professional responsibility.  Upon request, Seminole Community College discloses educational records without consent to officials of another school in which a student seeks or intends to enroll.
4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education, concerning alleged failures by "Seminole Community College" to comply with the requirements of FERPA. The name and address of the office that administers FERPA is:

Directory Information

Seminole Community College designates the following items as Directory Information. Seminole Community College may disclose any of these items without prior written consent of the student unless notified in writing to the contrary by the end of the registration period:

• Student name;
• Address;
• Telephone number;
• Student e-mail;
• Date and place of birth;
• Major field of study;
• Participation in officially recognized activities and sports;
• Weight and height of athletic teams;
• Dates of attendance;
• Enrollment status;
• Degrees and awards received;
• Photograph;
• Most recent or previous school attended; and
• Whether or not the student is currently attending classes.

Year-round Operations

The college academic year is 12 months and has the following features:

1. The College calendar is coordinated with state university calendars; 
2. Three beginning terms and multiple sessions within each term make it possible for students to complete programs early or take developmental work if necessary; and
3. Extracurricular activities are offered throughout the year.
