History of CollegeEstablished in 1965, Seminole Community College is a full-service education provider offering two-year college credit degrees (A.A., A.A.S., A.S.); specialized career certificates; continuing professional education; customized workplace training; adult education; and community, leisure and youth programs. Dr. Earl S. Weldon was appointed SCC's first president in October 1965. Since that time, SCC has been accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees. In 1974, the Seminole Junior College District Board of Trustees approved the name of the institution to be changed to Seminole Community College. SCC provides learning opportunities at four locations, as well as businesses, high schools and numerous outreach centers throughout Seminole County. The SCC at Sanford/Lake Mary Campus resides on 200 acres of beautiful, rolling countryside, 15 miles north of Orlando, bordered by Sanford on the north and Lake Mary on the west. In February 1996, Dr. E. Ann McGee became the second president in the history of the College. That same year, the District Board of Trustees approved SCC's purchase of a 161-acre tract of land in Oviedo. In January 2001, the Oviedo Campus joined the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus in addressing the rapidly growing educational and workforce development needs of eastern Seminole County. In 2007, the College celebrated the opening of the Center for Economic Development at Heathrow and in January 2008, the new Altamonte Springs Campus began offering its full-service menu to the residents of southwest Seminole County. |
