Business Mathematics, QMB 1001 - Sample SyllabusInstructor:
Required Textbook:
Course Description:This course is designed to enable students to use math to solve real-world business problems. Areas covered include checking accounts, using equations to solve business problems, calculating trade discounts, markup and markdown, payroll, and computing interest for notes. Course Requirements:You will be responsible for class attendance and four exams. Class Attendance and Participation:Class attendance is highly encouraged as is active participation. Reading the assigned chapters in the textbook and completing the review exercises before coming to class will help students to better understand the concepts. Students are responsible for all class materials and any announcements made in class whether or not they are present. Grading Scale:
Method of Evaluation:Four Exams (25 percent of grade each) Description of Method of Evaluation:Exams:There will be four non-cumulative exams in class, each valued at 25 percent of your final grade. Tests are comprised of objective questions (fill-in the blank, true/false, multiple choice and word problems). Taking exams:
Make-Up Exams:All students are expected to take all exams on the scheduled dates. If you find it impossible to attend class on any of the assigned dates, you must notify the instructor within 24 hours of the exam date to be eligible for a make-up exam. Make-up exams will only be allowed in the case of an unavoidable, serious and justifiable emergency. Official, valid documentation will be required. Any make-up exams must be completed prior to the next class meeting. The responsibility for making arrangements for make-up exams lies solely with the student. Exam times must be scheduled outside of regular class hours. Grades:The instructor will not report grades by e-mail or telephone. The student can login into ANGEL (http://ecampus.scc-fl.edu/angel/frames.aspx) to see his/her test scores. Withdraw Policy:It is the student's responsibility to withdraw from the course by the college posted deadline. Any student who stops attending class will receive a final grade reflecting the total points earned in the course. The instructor will not withdraw students. Classroom Courtesy:Students are expected to show respect and courtesy to their classmates and to the instructor. Please keep all cell phones, beepers and pagers turned off during class, and refrain from using hostile and profane language. Try to arrive to class on time and remain for the entire class period. Guests, children and pets are not allowed in the classroom. Disciplinary proceedings may be initiated against students who infringe upon the instructor's right to teach or classmates' right to learn.
