Raider Fastpitch Softball NewsSoftball sweeps Lake Sumter CCApril 9, 2008 - SCC's softball team swept Lake Sumter CC Tuesday by scores of 12-2 and 10-1. Both games were called after five innings because of the eight-run rule. The Raiders offense pounded out 27 hits in the two games. Game 1 Game 2 The Raiders next game is Thursday against Central Florida CC at home. The doubleheader begins at 2:30 p.m. at Raiders Field. Raiders softball goes 3-1 last week in Conference playApril 7, 2008 - Last week the Raiders fastpitch softball team went 3-1 in Mid-Florida Conference play, defeating Lake City CC 14-1 and 6-0 Tuesday, April 1 and splitting with Daytona Beach CC, winning 3-0 and losing 2-1 Thursday, April 3. The team is 24-24 overall and play Tuesday, April 8 at Lake Sumter CC in a non-conference match-up before hosting Central Florida CC in a crucial conference date Thursday, April 10. LCCC In the second game, SCC held a 2-0 lead until the Raiders exploded for four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Natalie Beach drove in the first three runs for the Raiders, going 2-3, and Gentry continued her hot hitting streak, driving in two more runs. Aimee Tarte also had two hits in the game as Kyra Lee picked up her eighth win of the season, giving up only five hits in seven innings of work. DBCC In the first game, Danielle Valentino drove in all three of the Raider's runs. She hit a two-out double in the bottom of the fourth to put SCC up 2-0. Then she hit a single in the sixth inning to drive in the last Raider run. Higginbotham took the win on the mound, holding DBCC to only three hits and striking out five. Raiders win home opener against Broward CCSCC's fastpitch softball team had a solid season opening at home Saturday afternoon, defeating Broward CC (1-3) by a score of 1-0 in nine innings in their first game and 4-1 in game two. Freshman pitcher Kyra Lee pitched a complete game in the 1-0 win, allowing no runs on 4 hits and striking out 2. The Raiders had 7 hits, 4 coming in the last inning. Freshman Brittany Pumpelly drove in the winning run with a 1 out bases loaded infield single. In game 2, sophomore Aimee Tarte was 2-3 with a double and a triple and drove in 3 runs. The game was tied 1-1 until Tarte hit her bases loaded triple in the bottom of the 6th inning. Sophomore pitchers Devin Higginbotham and Amanda Swarthout combined to shut down the Sharks. Swarthout picked up the win, allowing only 1 hit over the last 3 innings and Higginbotham pitched 4 innings and allowed 1 unearned run on 4 hits. |
