Music Program

Video: A Day in the Life of SCC Music Students
(High-speed Internet and RealPlayer required)

We believe all forms of music are valuable. Whether you're interested in choral or instrumental, classical, jazz or contemporary, we're here to help you succeed.

At SCC, we offer two Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree pre-majors that will prepare you to transfer into the bachelor's degree music program of your choice. With our General Music and Music Performance programs, you can complete the common prerequisite coursework for an upper-division music major as part of your general A.A. degree.

Our goal is simple: to provide students with a solid musical foundation that will allow them to successfully transition to a four-year institution. To achieve this, we:

  • Have an expert faculty that consists of active performers who specialize in teaching young musicians
  • Offer small class sizes and personalized instruction
  • Provide state-of-the-art music facilities, such as practice rooms, a piano lab and a professional-caliber concert hall
  • Present the Encore! Concert Series to showcase the musical talents of our students as well as performers nationwide
  • Offer scholarships to talented choral and instrumental musicians
  • Provide opportunities for ensemble and solo performances

Students pursuing an A.A. degree pre-major in music receive:

  • A solid musical education
  • Private instruction on their primary instrument
  • Individual assistance locating a four-year college or university that best fits their needs

Why SCC?

The musical training you receive at SCC is equivalent to the fist two years of study in a bachelor's degree music program. So why start at SCC? The reasons are simple:

  • Our classes are much smaller than those taken at a four-year college or university. Smaller class sizes mean more individual attention to help you hone your talent.
  • Courses at SCC cost much less than the same classes at a four-year school.
  • We work closely with students to develop a personalized timeline for degree completion that best meets their needs.

How Do I Earn an A.A. Degree Pre-Major in Music?

To successfully pre-major in music, you must complete one of the following curriculum:
