Music A.A. Degree Program

A day in the life of SCC Music Students video
High-speed Internet and RealPlayer required.

Students can earn an Associate in Arts degree in Music after two years of instruction at SCC. An A.A. degree in music from SCC will enable you to transfer to the college or university of your choice to pursue a bachelor's degree in music.

SCC believes all forms of music are valuable. Whether you choose choral or instrumental, or whether you're interested in classical, jazz or contemporary music, we're here to help you succeed.

Our goal is simple -- to provide a solid musical foundation, allowing for a successful transition to a four-year institution. To achieve this, we:

  • Have an expert faculty consisting of active performers who specialize in teaching young musicians.
  • Offer small class sizes and personal attention.
  • Provide state-of-the-art music facilities, such as practice rooms, a piano lab and a professional-level concert hall.
  • Present the Encore! Classical Concert Series to showcase musical talent from our campus and across the country.
  • Offer scholarships to talented choral and instrumental musicians.
  • Provide ensemble and solo performance opportunities.

When you enter the Music A.A. Program, you receive:

  • A solid musical education.
  • Private instruction on your primary instrument.
  • Individual assistance in locating a college or university that best fits your needs.

The musical training you receive at SCC is equal to the education you would receive enrolled in first two years in a university music program. So why should you choose SCC for your first two years of study?

  • Our classes are much smaller than those taken at a four-year college or university. Smaller class sizes equate to more opportnuties for individualized attention to help you hone your talent.
  • Attending courses at SCC costs much less than taking the same classes at a university.
  • We work closely with students' individual circumstances and set up a track for successful completion on a timeline that best meets their needs.

How do I earn an A.A. degree in music?

To earn an A.A. degree in music, you must successfully complete the music and general education curriculum.

  • Teach music in a school or private studio environment
  • Perform in any venue of your choosing
  • Compose music for television, radio, commercial jingles or performing ensembles
