Moore Family Center for Nursing and Healthcare Professionals

SCC is exploring innovative solutions to the local nursing shortage with the Altamonte Springs Campus, which houses the Center for Nursing and Healthcare Professionals. The center is equipped with computer technology and working labs to support simulations and experiential learning in the medical field.

With the confidence and financial support from the region's medical community, including several local hospitals, the Campus is poised to address the severe nursing shortage by training 250 nurses annually.

A $750,000 donation by Central Florida Regional Hospital, Florida Hospital Altamonte and Orlando Regional South Seminole Hospital was the first in the $5 million Altamonte Springs Campus' private support campaign. With a state match, the impact of the initial gift is $1.4 million to fund full-time nursing faculty and supply cutting-edge equipment.

"This contribution allowed the College to provide the best faculty, curriculum and facilities to our students so they can make an instant impact in the work force," said SCC President Dr. E. Ann McGee.

The Campus has 16 special purpose laboratories, each with state-of-the-art media teaching stations, including "smart-classrooms" that use cutting-edge audio/visual technology with computer and wireless Internet connectivity. In addition, each student station has a personal computer with wireless Internet connectivity and access to peripheral equipment.

In addition to addressing the nursing shortage, the SCC Altamonte Springs Campus will house the entire Health Professions Programs, including physical therapy, respiratory care and health information management.
