Admissions Process

Whatever your goals, we're here to help. SCC's counselors and admissions staff are happy to answer your questions, provide you with information, and get you started towards the best two years of your life.

Admissions Requirements

Admission requirements may differ based on individual requirements. However, the following guidelines should help you determine what you'll need when you apply to SCC.

 

Admissions Requirements for Post Secondary

SCC's admission requirements are divided into two types:

  • College-Credit students
  • Career Programs Vocational-Credit students

The listed requirements are meant to be a guideline. You may need to meet additional requirements based on:

  • Your individual qualifications or circumstances
  • The program/course of study for which you are applying

Our Admissions Office will provide you with information on program-specific individual requirements. Our staff and counselors are always happy to help you determine what requirements you need to meet for admission to SCC.

College-Credit Admission Requirements
General Requirements

To apply as a College-Credit student, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • GED (General Education Development) Diploma
First Time In College Student

Admission requirements will vary based on the type of student category into which you fall:

  • You must complete a College Placement Test (SAT, ACT or CPT) before enrolling.
Transfer Student

A Transfer Student has attended a college or university before enrolling.

  • The college or university you attended must be accredited by one of the regional accrediting associations.
  • Credits earned are accepted if work is in an area and on a level normally included within the first two years of college, and you received a grade of "D" or better.
Transient Student

Transient Students are "guest" students. They take a course or courses at SCC that transfer back to their home college or university.

  • You must be a student in good standing at your home school.
  • Your enrollment ends after one semester.
  • You must obtain a transient form from your home school.
International Student

International Students have varying requirements. Please refer to our International Students section for more information.

Non-Degree Seeking Students

Non-Degree Seeking Students take courses for career advancement or personal enrichment.

  • You must meet the course's requirements before enrolling.
Post Graduate Students

Post Graduate students have already earned a degree.

  • Your requirements will vary based on the program you wish to take. Please contact the Admissions Office for more information.

Admissions Requirements for Applied Technologies/Vocational-Credit Certificate Programs

To apply to an Applied Technologies or Vocational Certificate program, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • GED (General Education Development) Diploma

If you do not meet these requirements, you can request the admissions requirements be waived.

Special Programs are those that:
  • Have limited access
  • Require a state license after graduation
Special Program Requirements

Special programs may have additional admission requirements. Contact the Admissions Office for more information.

Basic Skills Examination

Students who enroll in a vocational-credit certificate program or post secondary adult vocational program of 450 or more clock hours must meet basic skills examination requirements as set forth by the Florida State Board of Education.

SCC offers educational programs to help students without high school diplomas.
