Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center offers all SCC students free tutoring in math, writing and the sciences, as well as an open computer lab. The ASC staff consists of peer tutors; paraprofessionals, with at least an associate degree; and ASC Instructional Support Specialists (ISS) with at least a bachelor's degree.

Mission

The Academic Success Center provides academic support to all college credit, college preparatory, vocational and certificate students. We enhance the instruction presented by the faculty by offering students the opportunity to benefit from tutoring in mathematics, English, and the biological and physical sciences. Students have access to computers to write papers, complete research, and complete academic tutorials in several disciplines.

Vision

The Academic Success Center will continue to provide positive, effective support to SCC's students and faculty by providing tutoring and mentoring to students in English, mathematics and the biological/physical sciences. We strive to maintain a culturally and technologically diverse learning community, offering a variety of means: human help (student tutors, paraprofessionals with A.A. degree, and ASC Instructional Support Specialists with B.A. degree or higher), videos, computer tutorials, handouts, models, and practice tests. One of the primary focus of the Center will be to continue to acquire and maintain qualified student tutors, paraprofessionals and ASC ISS who foster knowledge and offer patience, support, and understanding.
