Legislative Visit

Many thanks to the Trustees who met with the Legislators today. A special thanks to Representatives Joe Pickens, David Mealor, David Simmons and Alan Hays for taking time out of their schedule to spend the day with us and listen to our needs. Additional thanks goes to Brenda Ajamian, Legislative Aide for Representative Simmons, and Tom Hammons, Legislative Aide for Senator Carey Baker for their attendance.

Also, many thanks to Dr. Charles English and Verdell Pugh Horne for attending the Trustee meeting in Tampa in conjunction with FACC.

Journalism Awards!

The SCC Scribe, received eleven awards during the 2006 Florida Community College Activities Association's Annual Convention including:

Faculty Achievements

I am pleased to announce that Loraine Brown and Maudrilla Thompson in the Nursing Department received their Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Capella University. We are honored to have two more doctorates among our professors!!! Congratulations, Loraine and Marge!

Staff Achievements

Each year, the Council for Aid to Education publishes a national report of the Voluntary Support of Education. It lists the 100 top fundraisers among the 1200 community colleges. I am pleased to report that two Florida community colleges made it into the top 20...Indian River Community College ranked #1 raising $15,222,667 and Seminole Community College ranked #16 raising $3,154,203. This was over $1,000,000 more than our sister institution, Valencia. Congratulations to Dr. Matt Hodge, his team, and our fabulous Foundation Board!

FACC Kudos

Linda Cowels, our FACC Chapter Membership Chairman, brought back a Membership Award for having 50% or more of our employees as members of FACC. Also, Linda was tied with the second runner up for the Career and Professional Employee Commission Excellence Award and was recognized for her service on the CPEC Commission Board as the Legislative Liaison.

Also, many congratulations are in order for Lucia Dzikowski for placing in the top 3 faculty members in the State at the recent FACC Convention. Congratulations, Lucia!

Orlando Opera Guild's Designers' Show House

SCC's Interior Design students once again helped to design the Orlando Opera Guild's Designers' Show House. Located on Ivanhoe Blvd. in Orlando, the house had twenty rooms which were totally redone. Fourteen of the rooms were designed by either current SCC students or our graduates. It was amazing! Congratulations to Jill Smith and the students. Also, if you visit the Festival of Trees at the Orlando Art Museum be sure to look for our "student" tree.

Graduations

• Criminal Justice Graduation will be held on Wednesday, December 13, at 7:00 p.m.
• GED Graduation will be held on Thursday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Health Building.
• Commencement will be held on Friday, December 15, at 8:00 p.m. in the Health Building - preceded by our annual Graduation Dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. The Honorable Donna McIntosh is our Commencement Speaker.

Student Achievements

Late breaking news...we just received notice that 74 nursing graduates have taken the State Licensure exam with a 95.95% pass rate. Congratulations to the nursing students and faculty.
