PBL Applause
Our
Phi Beta Lambda chapter has continued their excellent competitive
record by winning more awards at the National Conference than any other
Florida school.

Resource Management

SCC's chapter was also recognized as a "Gold Seal"
Chapter.
Congratulations to faculty member, Sherry Jenkins, who serves as the advisor to PBL. Well done!
Athletic Performance
A compilation of our athletic performance this year was previously
forwarded to the Board. I am sure you noticed that we did well in
sports awards, as well as, academic awards. Congratulations are in
order for our Women's Softball Team who achieved the highest overall
GPA of the four teams, 2.95; to our baseball pitcher who was awarded
the Mid-Florida "Fireman of the Year" award; to the Women's Basketball
Team for being Mid-Florida Conference Champions; and to Ken Patrick,
Women's Basketball Coach, for being named Mid-Florida Conference Coach
of the Year. In addition to the FCCAA and NJCAA awards which the
students received, I was most proud to see that 17 students received
four-year scholarships. We pride ourselves on helping the students to
be "winners at life," not just in athletics. The scholarships are
evidence that we are succeeding.
Center for Building Construction Dedication Ceremony
The
dedication of the Center for Building Construction will take place on
Friday, July 20, at 9:00am. Speaker Feeney is the guest speaker. He
will be joined by former Senator Toni Jennings and Senator Dan Webster
who were most instrumental in making the $5.6 million facility a
reality.
Education Appointments
I
know that you have all seen the Florida Board of Education and
University Trustee appointments that have been reported in recent weeks
in the press. David Armstrong recently issued a report showing that
each university board has a community college link. In our case, it is
our own Rick Lee who will also serve on the UCF Board. Plus, I feel
very fortunate to be named to the Florida State University Board. So,
as we look toward a truly seamless K-20 educational system, SCC is
positioned most positively to help make that happen. I will be
attending the first meeting of the State Board next week which will be
followed by the new Trustee orientation.
Fall Term
The
Fall Term will begin on August 20 with the Welcome Back session for all
faculty and staff. At that time, we will be off and running with a new
term and the enrollment looks strong.
