Dear Friends and Family Members of SCC:

The Legislature has now gone home...and SCC can certainly declare VICTORY! We are thrilled with what was accomplished this year...but we are already starting to work on next year.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU ACHIEVED ON OUR BEHALF! WE COULD NOT HAVE HAD THIS SUCCESS WITHOUT THE EFFORTS OF EACH ONE OF YOU!

SOME SPECIAL THANK YOU`S ARE IN ORDER TO: OUR SCC FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBERS AND COLLEGE TRUSTEES; BARBARA MILLER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CENTRAL FLORIDA AUTOMOTIVE DEALERS ASSOCIATION; OUR CFADA AUTOMOTIVE DEALERS WHO TRAVELLED TO TALLAHASSEE AND CHAMPIONED OUR CAUSE; THE CHAMBER MEMBERS WHO MADE SCC "THEIR" CAUSE AND WERE VERY PUBLIC IN TALLAHASSEE ABOUT THEIR SUPPORT; ENVISION SEMINOLE, THE SEMINOLE COUNTY COMMISSION, AND THE CITIES OF LAKE MARY, ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, AND OVIEDO WHO "ADOPTED" SCC AS A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY; OUR OWN SCC EMPLOYEES AND ACTIVE FACC MEMBERS; AND DON PAYTON, SCC`S MAN IN TALLAHASSEE.

To recap, SCC`s Board of Trustees set three major priorities for the College going into this year`s legislative session. These priorities were: (1) fund our enrollment growth; (2) fund our facilities (PECO) request; and (3) fund the state match of SCC`s community donations.

I am happy to report that we were highly successful in all of these areas! Here are the highlights:

  • Overall, this budget is the best seen by the Community College System in about 10 years.
  • Approximately 75% of community college enrollment growth has been funded. We will work on the other 25% for next year!
  • SCC will receive a total of $32,366,522 in state operating funds - an increase of $2,783,234 or 9.4% over last year.
  • The 5% tuition increase approved by the legislature is expected to yield an additional $695,000 for SCC.
  • SCC will receive a total of $778,662 in program and scholarship matching funds.
  • SCC will receive $2,008,125 in facilities matching grants. This fully funds the state match for the automotive training center.
  • The Altamonte Springs campus is fully funded at $3,836,268.
  • The I-4 Technology/Economic Development center is fully funded at $7,698,600.
  • We were successful in securing a $1.5 million member project for the automotive center. Senator Dan Webster was key to this initiative. This is in addition to the matching funds outlined above and will enable us to meet the higher cost of building and equipping the facility, whose cost was originally estimated approximately 5 years ago when fundraising for the building began. (We are working with the Governor`s Office to ensure his approval of this line item.)
  • General renovations and remodeling projects were funded at $1,463,809.
  • Remodeling and renovation of Bldg. K was funded at $471,110.

All of this could not have been accomplished without your help and the strong and continuing support of our Legislative Delegation, local government officials, and our network of business partners.

Thanks to all of you for all that you have done to insure our success!!! You are making a difference for future generations of SCC students!!! ann
